Q. I have cut out added sugar and soft drinks now I’m eating more fruit and juice? Will this help me lose weight?

A. There is no doubt you have made some positive nutritional adjustments to your diet.  This gives you a great start to improving your general health. However… your situation is a prime example of where quality of food consumed does not automatically induce a reduction in total energy intake. Fruit and fruit juice are highly energy dense foods and can still contribute a high level of energy intake. If the total energy intake from the sugar based foods has now been replaced by the same amounts of energy from the fruit products then very little, if any, weight loss is going to occur with this substitution. Continue to use fruit and fruit juice in preference to sugar based foods, but be careful to modify the total amount used to within the guidelines set within our 10 week plan. Do not overeat or over-consume the fruit products or they will also impede your fat loss.
